Dear Editor,
The Quran, the holy book of Islam, is revered by millions around the world for its profound wisdom, guidance and spiritual insight. The Qur'an as a holy book expresses the words of Allah, which were revealed to the Muslim prophet Muhammad in 114 chapters (1). This holy book, like the holy books of other religions, is known as an authentic source of knowledge, wisdom and mysticism. The Quran attaches special importance to reason, science and technology and believes that humans have an instinct that is always thirsty for knowledge (2). With the advent of technology and its increasing progress, the question that is raised is whether it is possible to help spread the knowledge, wisdom and law of the Quran with new technologies, especially artificial intelligence? The answer to this question is positive. In today's era, building an intelligent system that can answer any Quranic question with any level of knowledge and also can provide the necessary guidelines to solve the problems of the Muslim and non-Muslim society with a deep understanding of the concepts of the Quran is not far from the expectation (3, 4).
Artificial intelligence is actually a technology that has the ability to think. Of course, this ability to think is very different from what we know as human thinking, but in fact it tries to imitate it (5). Artificial intelligence has revolutionized various aspects of human life. In recent years, researchers and technologists have begun to explore the interesting intersection between artificial intelligence and the Quran (6).
- Analysis and interpretation of the Quran: artificial intelligence can help researchers in the analysis and interpretation of the text of the Quran. Through Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, algorithms can be developed to analyze linguistic structure and semantic relationships in Quranic verses. It can help understand complex language patterns, uncover deeper meanings, and facilitate cross-referencing between verses (4).
- Translation and interpretation of the Quran: accurate translation and interpretation of the Qur'an is a challenging task due to linguistic subtleties and cultural contexts. Machine translation based on artificial intelligence can help improve access to the Quran by automatically translating the Quran into different languages. However, recognizing the limitations of AI translations and ensuring human supervision is essential to preserve the richness and intended meaning of the original text (7).
- Quranic chatbots and voice assistants: AI-based chatbots and voice assistants can provide interactive platforms for people seeking information and guidance related to the Quran (8). These virtual assistants can answer questions, provide explanations, and provide access to specific verses or topics. Careful consideration should be given to developing these AI applications with accurate and reliable sources to avoid any potential misinterpretation or misinformation.
- Preservation and digitization of Quranic manuscripts: Artificial intelligence technologies, such as optical character recognition (OCR), can help preserve and digitize ancient Quranic manuscripts. By automatically transcribing and digitizing these valuable texts, artificial intelligence can help preserve their integrity, facilitate digital access, and enable extensive scientific research (9).
Conclusion
Overall, the intersection of artificial intelligence and the Quran provides an exciting frontier for exploration. The use of artificial intelligence can increase the understanding, access and retention of the teachings of the Qur'an and make them more accessible to a global audience. However, acknowledging the importance of human guidance and ethical considerations, this integration should be approached with caution. By responsibly using the power of artificial intelligence, we can open up new dimensions of knowledge and insight into the Qur'an while respecting its sacred place. As AI technologies continue to evolve, it is critical that we approach their integration with the Quran responsibly and ethically. Respecting religious sensitivities, ensuring the correctness of translations and avoiding biased or controversial interpretations are of great importance. Human supervision and scientific assistance are necessary to deal with possible issues and preserve the sanctity of the Quran (10).
